Barr'd Islands (pop. 150) inherited its name from the long barrier ridge of islands that forms the harbour. This acts as a breakwater and serves as a roadway to several houses. This roadway leads out to what is today called "Little Harbour" by local residents.
Residents of Barr'd Islands depended mainly on inshore cod fishery and the seal fishery. There were also five schooners which took part in the Labrador fishery.
