Historical Overview
Place Name Origin: It is believed that Cull's Harbour got its name from a man named Cull who sailed up Bloody Bay in the 1700s raiding a native encampment. It is also believed that Cull's Harbour is a derivative of the name of its first permanent settler, John Cullion of Country Cork, Ireland. Cullion came over with his family and laid the foundation for a large water powered mill driven by the waters from five damned ponds. The mill operated until the 1920s.
