Deep Bay (pop. 153), established in the late 1700's was originally called Hare Bay, but because another Newfoundland community had the same name it was changed in 1952. The name Deep Bay was chosen because of the bay's water depth.
This fishing community is well known for its large mussel beds and squid jigging grounds. Also take notice of the great berry picking areas or even gather some as a delicious treat. Deep Bay was the last community to be linked to the main road in 1966.
