Explore Our Sea Coasts
Explore Newfoundland's rugged Coast by Land or Sea.
The overwhelming sight of icebergs that have drifted south from the Arctic down Iceberg Alley during the late spring and early summer, and ultimately becoming grounded along the rugged north coast is an experience worth exploring. Complimenting these towers of ice, Whales often frequent this part of Newfoundland, particularly in the White Bay, Notre Dame Bay, and Bonavista Bay areas. Approximately 5000 whales visit Newfoundland's northern waters during the summer, providing excellent viewing opportunities.
View these marvels of nature from the shore, or contact one of the many Sea Kayaking or boat tour operators in the area to get a closer look. While on the water take the time to investigate the many coves, bays, and fiords that connect the many fishing communities located along the coast.
If you have trouble finding your sea legs, coastal drives throughout the area will take you to a variety of scenic destinations. In addition, some of the best iceberg viewing occurs on the North Coast of Central Newfoundland as icebergs are often grounded and visible from shore. The winding roads will take you along some of the most scenic vistas you can imagine as you snake your way along the fiords and bays. These roads take you to picturesque outport communities where houses cling to steep cliffs, and almost seem to be built on top of one another.
