St. Veronica's is located at the Head of Bay d'Espoir. It is a small community just a short drive from Milltown.
The first settler in the community was William Barnes a fisherman from Gaultois, NF, in 1867. He settled on a former seasonal encampment of the Micmac. Other families came to area during the winter for the purpose of logging and in the 1890's, Organ and Kearley families settled here. Logging became the main industry in the community. At first, the logs were cut for the sawmills and later for pulpwood. The beginning of the Hydro-Electric project saw the population of the community swell to 166 in 1966. The area known as the tailrace, where the water used to generate the electricity empties into Bay d'Espoir, is located at St. Veronica's. This area has recently been cited as an excellent place to catch rainbow trout.
