Woodstock is a beautiful setting place for site seeing. It has a playground for the children and a beautiful seashore, which is mainly sandy with large flat rocks. If you look across the harbour you can see the lighthouse situated on a cliffside. You can also see whales and ice bergs in the right season.
Local History
Woodstock was first settled in the late 1800's and it was known as Southwest Pacquet. In 1911, the name was changed to Woodstock when the first post office was opened by George Packwood. The early settlers were loggers, although a few fished in Charlies Cove. Many of the early settlers came from Conception Bay to mine.
In winter, they hunted seals and in summer, they took cod off Woodstock. Gooseberry Cove was settled in the mid 1800's to 1950's and had a waterwheel and sawmill. The timber was shipped by schooner. The early settlers encouraged people from England, Scotland and Ireland to settle on the Baie Verte Peninsula. Logging became a way of life in 1912.
